- Abstract
This layer shows all Marine Protected Areas (MPA) around the area of the Caribbean Biological Corridor (CBC). The CBC is a biodiversity management framework, established by the Governments of the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Haiti in 2007 (Jamaica is Permanent Observer). The CBC framework does not include marine ecosystems. Given the transboundary nature of shared living marine resources, the need to expand the scope of the CBC to include also marine protected areas is evident.
Ecosystem connectivity has been recognized to be key to the effectiveness of protected areas.
